About Vicki Tansey

One of Canada's leading pioneers in the art of improvisation, Vicki Tansey, dancer, singer and visual artist, has been performing and teaching for over 35 years. Trained in both classical and contemporary dance, she is also an accredited Tai Chi teacher and longtime Buddhist practitioner, having taken refuge with Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1972. A passionate and inspired teacher, she has been on the faculty of the National Theatre School of Canada, and has taught improvisation and creative process in the Dance, Theatre and Fine Arts departments of Concordia University in Montreal, as well as at the Visual Arts Centre and the Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Arts. She is the subject of an in-progress documentary film by Quebec artist Louise Abbot: "Vicki Tansey: In the Moment", and is the creator and director of a new multi-disciplinary performance work entitled "The Physical Choir Theatre Project".
