The Mindful Leader: Bringing Out The Best In Ourselves and Others With Michael Carroll September 11-14, 2008 Click here to download pdf flier. As workplace leaders in business, governmental, and educational organizations, we are always trying to meet the deadline, finish the project, grow our business, close the deal, and make our activities more effective. The speed and pace can be intense - getting it done faster, better, cheaper, and smarter. Such a style of leadership with all its ambition and energy has its benefits no doubt, but it also has a profound blind spot: In our relentless pursuit of ‘success,’ we often neglect our workplace and the people in it. In trying to get from Point A to Point B as efficiently as possible, we often arrive at our destination to find disgruntled clients, burnt out employees, and alienated colleagues. We forget that we want to get to Point B with our sanity intact. When our career is sharply focused on being more successful, more admired, or just more comfortable, we can deceive ourselves into neglecting the world around us, managing our lives like projects rather than actually living them. In this retreat we will explore how to bring a new vision of leadership to work, not based solely on ambition, will, and power, but drawn from the ancient vision of a leader as wise, compassionate, and intelligent. Covering many of the topics presented in his book The Mindful Leader (Shambhala 2007), Michael Carroll will lead this 3-day retreat providing participants opportunities to learn and practice mindfulness-awareness meditation, attend lectures, participate in group contemplative exercises, and discuss the role of work in cultivating a mindful relationship to our life. $350.00 About Michael Carroll
