Exits and Entrances: Explorations in Presence With Vicki Tansey September 4 - 7, 2009 To view a printable flyer for this program, click here. We often "get it" intellectually, yet rarely live and experience our understandings in our everyday life. Part of this disconnect is because we are not "in" our bodies - and rarely do we recognize our body's intrinsic intelligence. Body and mind are inseparable. Being absent from either shuts us off from a full realization of our creative potential. Through daily sessions of meditation, body movement and voice improvisation exercises participants will learn how to integrate the body, breath and mind - deepening awareness, cutting through habitual patterns, and dissolving barriers that keep us feeling both fatigued and fragmented. "Vicki offers a unique and profound teaching. We are relearning our bodies, what they actually have to say." -Workshop participant Enrollment limited; please register early. Tuition: $375 About Vicki Tansey One of Canada's leading pioneers in the art of improvisation, Vicki Tansey, dancer, singer and visual artist, has been performing and teaching for over 40 years. Trained in both classical and contemporary dance, she is also an accredited Tai Chi teacher and longtime Buddhist practitioner, having taken refuge with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1972. A passionate and inspired teacher, she has been on the faculty of the National Theatre School of Canada, and has taught improvisation and creative process in the Dance, Theatre and Fine Arts departments of Concordia University in Montreal, as well as at the Visual Arts Centre and the Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Arts. She is the subject of an in-progress documentary film by Quebec artist Louise Abbot: Vicki Tansey: In the Moment, and is the creator and director of a new multi-disciplinary performance work entitled The Physical Choir Theatre Project.
